sealion commission_plus thanks

I was recently asked to illustrate a memory for a lady named Ella. The memory was about a bunch of sealions who were hangin out and barking on a dock. A little baby sea lion tries to squeeze onto the dock and causes it to capsize, hurling all these giant sealions into the water. I thought it would be neat to show the drawing and final. This was a difficult illustration, because sealions, with their organic forms, can easily look like amoebas if not drawn right, haha. So I ended up drawing a bunch of them on tracing paper in different positions to get use to their shape. Then I layered them together to get the rough drawing. I really wanted to capture the hilarity of the memory, since a barreling heap of sealions would be pretty funny to see. I believe I am working on another memory for Ella, which sound interesting, I will share later! Hope you digg.

Also, about Irration Fears, I wanted to thank Amy from Pikaland for posting about the Irration Fears and Useless Talents! I recieved some awesome submissions from it, so thanks Amy! If anyone has any more to share, just put them in the comments or email me at sarah@wattsalot.com

Soooo-New Call for submissions!!

Hello everyone!
So this will be the last call I make on my blog for Useless Talents. I am ready to finish them on my own time, which I will probably post later, or make a flickr account of them. Please feel free to send them even when I am done though, maybe there will be two series of them down the road! If you are new to my blog, click here to see all the Useless talents posted so far.

New Theme: It's time to ask for new things from you guys, since I am starting the next project soon. SO, the new theme that I need from readers is....drumroll.....Irrational Fears!! A friend of mine, Robyn Hyzy, helped me come to this one. While sending me her Useless Talents she also told me all these funny things that she's sort of afraid of, and I though it was the perfect jump start for the next bunch. Examples of Irrational Fears that I have from a few people:
"Afraid of socks laying on the floor in the dark...they start to look like white cobra snakes."

"I was afraid of this stick man when I was a kid, he was made out of sticks and had no face. Yes, I know he wasn't real."

"Chairs facing me backwards, I just feel like a creepy little girl is sitting in it."

"I have an irrational fear of raw potatoes. When I was a kid, I saw some that had grown eyes in our pantry. That freaked me out. When I asked my mom what they were, she said that potatoes grow eyes. I imagined potatoes growing human eyes, and I still picture that happening!"

Yeah that last was classic. Anyway, so share share! You can either email me at 14watts@gmail.com or you can post them in the comments. And here is one more Useless Talent for everyone, more to come later.

schmupdate

Hello! I haven't been on the net outside of work in a week because some punks cut the internet to our apartment trying to steal cable, haha. Anyway, here's some new stuff, and sketchbook work at the bottom.

Here's an illustration, I try to do one each week, keeps my gears clean. The whole"schma" thing is sort of an inside joke between me and some friends-a joke I ran into the ground like most of my jokes, haha. The idea is to add "schma" to the beginning to words, and you can image this had become my new language. The image is inspired by my grandparents-one day I had the privilege of catching them dancing together, and it made my heart warm. They are so inspiring, and have been in love for a long time.

Sketchbook stuff!! Haven't shared any in a while. I tend to keep it simple lately...with a pen.
