good news week!

This last week has been a really nice surprise. Today I found out that the Winefestival poster I did in the Design Center for the Lakewood Ranch Rotary Club won a Gold Addy award! I am stoked because I worked on that thing until the day of graduation. It really payed off, and it was flattering because I designed as well as illustrated the poster. Congratulations to the other students that won as well, Trish, I speak to you, woot!!

Yesterday I freaked out when I found a piece of mine posted on Designsponge about illustrators that do hand-lettering, thanks for including me!

Two of my pieces got into the Society of Illustrators Scholarship competition-Seamonsters and Maria Callas. The faculty submits alumni work from the Best of Ringling and I was lucky enough to get in. I am especially excited about the Seamonsters, because it didn't get in the year before, and this is also more how I work now.

Thank you so much to the people who put a smile on my face!! I am so truly grateful for all this!
On another note, I need to get crackin on Useless Talents.....

a dance in the park

I love how dogs get all squiggly and excited...until they start peeing all over the place. Even then you still end up lovin' em and giving them smooches. Anyway, hope you enjoy this ill...a girl walking an excited weiner dog in the park! I friggen love making art.

Remind me to make my next illustration horizontal. It's easy for me to get caught up in the verticle habit, probably some subconscious thing to feel taller. Haha

the snake queen-and other drawings

This image has been burning in my head lately..it is about a snake queen. When I was a kid we had a lot of snakes for pets. I use walk around the yard with a snake around my neck like a boa, and pretend I was this dark queen that had an uncanny ability to communicate with snakes and other reptiles. Don't worry, I played with barbies and did normal stuff too, sometimes. I definitely have a romantic aesthetic that I don't illustrate as often. It is a sort of fantasy side that I'd like to expand on.

Anyway, below is the first drawing I did of the queen.

Also, I was recently contacted to work on some fashion illustrations for a magazine. The project didn't go through because of budget, but it inspired me to do some of my own fashion-type drawings.

"Swallowtail"

"Growth"

I love dresses and decorating. Making little patterns and things are sort of theraputic. Cheers!
