Illustration Academy work

Here are a few of the pieces that I did for the academy. My brain is hurting from the amount of knowledge that I obtained from there. Yesterday was the last day, and it was sad to see everyone go. I met some amazing people at the academy and I hope to stay in touch with them. Anyway, some of these still need work, critiques would be appreciated. If I make changes I will post them in the future. I feel that sometimes its is good to just let go of a piece because I could go and work at the little things endlessly. Well, hope you enjoy!

This is a portait of Maria Callas, who was a famous opera singer. C.F. Payne was the instructor who gave the assignment. He is amazing.

Gary Kelley gave an assignment where we had to illustrate the word "blue." We all freaked out on this assignment. I ended up illustrating a conceptual piece of Bluebeard. Bluebeard was a wealthy aristocrat who had seven wives. He killed them when he became bored of the relationship, and kept them locked away in a room. He was a really nice guy.(kidding) Anyway, I did two pieces for this one, and I feel that neither of them were what I wanted, but this one was getting there. Jon Foster and his wife Melissa Ferriera(awesome woman) gave me some great feedback.

A portrait assignment given from Anita Kunz. This is Will Ferrell. I wanted to portray him as his character in Stanger Than Fiction. The background is a metaphor for the goofy stuff that we typically know him for.

Doug Chayka and Jenny Kostecki had us do an illustration for chapter 3 of the original Pinocchio. Doug and Jenny were amazing.

Mark English gave the last assignment. He wanted us to do some type of cafe scene using only shapes. There were other little requirements as well. This one was a great experience in using reference and distorting it.

Well, I did not include my first assignment because I thought it was a little boring. Anyway, I cannot explain how much the academy did for me. It hurts to think about it. I am going to lay on my rear fror three weeks and then I will get poppin for senior year. I also want to thank John, Sterling, Brent and George. They hold a very special place in my heart.
